Wiki / The scale
Share the scale between phone and tablet
In a shared count the scale goes to the phones first, and the tablet can borrow it when nobody else is using it.
DraftNot yet checked step by step against the running app. Labels may differ slightly.
Phones weigh first
The scale connects to one device at a time. In a shared count, the people walking the shelves with phones need it most, so the scale is phone first.
The tablet does not connect to the scale while:
- another device has the scale, or
- a phone is actively counting. That means it is not marked as done and has been heard from in the last 5 minutes.
What the tablet shows
The weigh panel tells you where the scale is:
- Scale: on … followed by a person’s name – that device has the scale now.
- Scale: ready for … — phones weigh first. – the phones are counting and the tablet is leaving the scale to them.
In the count header, the list of people counting shows a scale mark next to whoever has the scale, and a tick with done next to anyone who has finished.
Use the scale on the tablet
- Wait until nobody has had the scale for 5 minutes. The Use scale here button then appears in the weigh panel.
- Tap Use scale here. The tablet connects to the scale.
- Tare and weigh as usual.
The panel now says “Using the scale here — it goes back to the phones after 2 min without weighing.” If you stop weighing for 2 minutes, the tablet lets the scale go so a phone can pick it up.
When the phones are finished
Once every phone is marked as done, or has not been heard from for 5 minutes, the tablet connects to the scale by itself.
When you count alone
If no phone has joined the count, none of this applies. The tablet connects to the scale as soon as it is switched on. See Connect the scale.
Good to know
Weighing on a phone needs weighing to be on for your venue. See Why weighing can be off.
